I developed an interest in growing vegetables during the summer of 2011. I decided to purchase one of those flat pack greenhouses with the plastic cover and then took a trip to the garden centre. I returned home a couple of hours later with peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers and aubergines etc and I was off.
I spent most of my first year and some of my second come to that learning through trial and error. I would also speak to my mother-in-law and sister-in-law getting as many tips as possible along the way and overall I would say that I was pretty successful.

I like to grow all the allotment regulars like Potatoes, Carrots, Runner Beans, Onions Cabbages etc. However, I have gained a passion for being the only allotment holder (so far) to grow the different varieties of veg that is now available such as Purple Carrots, Anablanca Strawberries (white) All Gold Raspberries (yellow). I will provide a full listing of fruit and veg varieties that I grow on my allotment / greenhouse pages.
I find using a calendar in addition to an allotment journal best throughout the year, as you can compare the previous years weather conditions against the dates that you planted your seedlings and the notes you've made as to variety type planted. I sometimes quite like to sit down and reminisce at what I had planted and how they turned out.
